York: fantasmi e Harry Potter
Sempre durante le mie ultime vacanze natalizie, ho avuto il piacere di visitare un’altra cittá inglese che volevo vedere da molto tempo: York.

Questa cittá mi ha incantata, é meravigliosa, ma mai mi sarei aspettata di trovare moltissimi negozi dedicati ad uno dei miei film preferiti: Harry Potter!
Una delle vie piú famose di York infatti, “The Shambles” é ricca di piccoli negozietti a tema proprio su Harry Potter.
Amanti del film, non potete perdervi queste chicche! Guardate le foto qui sotto! La mitica Nimbus 2000!
…qualcuno non ha resistito a provarsi i mitici occhiali rotondi di Harry! 😀

E non poteva mancare il negozio delle “pozioni”, dove ho potuto bere una bella tazza di Butterbeer…
…che peró a qualcuno non é piaciuta..ahahahaha!

Ma York non é solo Harry Potter. Questa cittá di origini romane é quello che ti aspetti da una cittá medievale, infatti fu fondata circa 2000 anni fa. Il nome York deriva dal nome vichingo “Jorvic ” e un museo a loro dedicato é una delle attrazioni turistiche piú famose della cittá.
York é piena di piccoli negozietti di antichitá ma anche carinissime sale da te, of course!
Forse il piú famoso pub di York, lo “Ye Olde Starre Inne“, est 1644, perché é il primo pub con licenza di York. Si dice che durante la guerra civile le sue cantine vennero usate sia come ospedale che come obitorio. Interessante eh?

Un altro pub da non perdere é il King’s Arm, est. 1898, famoso a causa delle continue apparizioni televisive sulle notizie locali e nazionali, quando il fiume Ouse é in piena e il pub viene sommerso. Appena dentro la porta d’ingresso c’è una grande targa, che mostra l’altezza dell’acqua in occasioni precedenti. Il pub sembra essere peró molto ben organizzato per le inondazioni che spesso lo colpiscono, infatti sembrano non avere neanche un’assicurazione per questi eventi. York é famosissima anche per ospitare la cattedrale gotica piú grande della Gran Bretagna, un sogno vederla da vicino per gli appassionati del genere!
Altra particolaritá di questa cittá, é che sembra essere la cittá piú infestata di fantasmi di tutto il Regno Unito. A questo proposito é stato anche dedicato un walking tour apposito, piú informazioni le trovate cliccando QUI

A York ci sono tantissimi hotels, ma questi sono quelli che ho scelto personalmente per voi in base a ratings e commenti positivi (senza tralasciare l’aspetto economico, per me molto importante!)

During my Christmas holidays, I had the pleasure to visit another English city that I have longed to see for a VERY long time: York.
This city has enchanted me, it is wonderful, but I never expected to find many stores dedicated to one of my favourite movie franchises: Harry Potter!
One of the most famous streets of York in fact, “The Shambles” is full of little-themed shops focusing on the young wizard. Harry Potter lovers, you simply cannot miss these goodies! Look at the photos below! Behold the legendary Nimbus 2000!

Do not miss the “potions shop”, where I could drink a nice cup of Butterbeer …
…that “someone” did not like… hahahahaha!
But York is not just Harry Potter. This city of Roman origins is what you expect from a medieval city, in fact, it was founded about 2000 years ago. The name York derives from the Viking name “Jorvic” and a museum dedicated to them is one of the most famous tourist attractions of the city.
York is full of little shops of antiques but also very nice tea rooms, of course!
Pay a visit to the most famous pub in York, the “Ye Olde Starre Inne”, est 1644, because it is the first pub to be licensed in York. It is said that during the civil war its cellars were used both as a hospital and as a morgue. Interesting eh?

Another must-see pub is the King’s Arms, est. 1898. This place is famous because of the seemingly continuous television appearances on local and national news when the River Ouse floods its banks and the pub is submerged. Just inside the front door, there is a large plate which shows the height of the water on previous occasions. The pub seems to be well used to the floods by now, in fact, they do not seem to have even insurance for these events. If you are curious to know more, there’s more info HERE (in English).
York is also very famous for hosting the largest Gothic cathedral in Britain, a dream to see it closely!
Another feature is that it seems to be the most haunted city in the UK. If you are so inclined, a special walking tour will offer to scare you witless, more information can be found by clicking HERE
