Robin Hood’s Bay, un posticino da sogno

Robin Hood’s Bay é un piccolo gioiello sulla costa orientale del Regno Unito.

Erano secoli che volevo andare a visitarla, dopo aver visto le bellissime fotografie su uno dei miei profili Instagram preferiti, di Andy Duffin, dal quale prendo spesso spunto per le mie “passeggiate” fuori Londra.

Mi sono totalmente infatuata degli splendidi scorci del mare che bussa tra i meravigliosi cottages di questo piccolo gioiello di paesino,

un bellissimo spettacolo per gli occhi e per le orecchie! E si, perché qui a Robin Hood’s Bay uno dei pochi rumori che si sentono quando quatta quatta camminavo per le casette, era proprio il rumore del mare e dei gabbiani, una pace surreale! Mia mamma adorerebbe venirci in vacanza, per lei amante dei film di Rosamunde Pilcher questo sarebbe un sogno che si avvera, quindi chissá mai che un giorno non riesca a portarcela…

Per visitare questo posto serve assolutamente avere una macchina o un campervan, i collegamenti infatti qui non sono cosi scontati,

il paesino é piccolino e i trasporti non sono ottimi. Noi l’abbiamo raggiunta in macchina e abbiamo parcheggiato nel grande parcheggio in cima alla collina, che d’inverno é gratis. Se invece vi trovate a Whitby o partite da qualche localitá vicino Scarborough, allora potete prendere il bus Arriva X 93 che tocca un po’ di paesini sulla costa, tra cui questo. Una delle cose che piú mi ha meravigliata é stata che al nostro arrivo sulla spiaggia si potevano vedere metri e metri di fondale non ancora coperto dal mare, mentre quando siamo andati via era tutto sommerso. Meraviglia ♥

I cottages in affitto qui sono tantissimi e i prezzi praticamente stracciati! Sono uno piú bello dell’altro, non la finivo piú di fare foto ♥

Essendoci stati il 26 Dicembre purtroppo molti dei localini per mangiare erano chiusi, ma abbiamo comunque avuto fortuna nel trovare un piccolissimo shop che offriva…Fish and chips! E devo dire molto buona anche la fish cakes, altro non é che una polpetta di pesce e patate, fritta in pastella. Una bomba di libidine goduriosa! 😀 E non contenta, dopo mi sono anche presa una bella pallina di gelato, credo che staró a dieta per i prossimi 2 anni! 😀

Sicuramente si deve aver voglia di camminare, perché le stradine sono si tutte in discesa all’inizio, ma le discese al ritorno diventano salite e anche belle ripide a volte! 😀

Un’unica raccomandazione: sulla spiaggia non ci sono bisoni dell’immondizia e qui tutti amano riciclare. I bidoni si possono trovare in giro per il paese, non é difficile vederli perché tutto é molto ben organizzato. Altre info le potete trovare QUI

Robin Hood’s Bay is a small jewel on the North East of the United Kingdom.

I have longed to visit the place after seeing the beautiful pictures of one of my favourite profiles on Instagram, Andy Duffin, from whom I often draw inspiration for my regular “walks” outside London.

Here, I’m totally infatuated with the beautiful sea views that peek out among the beautiful cottages in this little gem of a town, a beautiful feast for the eyes and ears! I say eyes and ears because here in Robin Hood’s Bay some of the few sounds you hear when sneaking walking through the houses, are the sound of the sea and the shrill of seagulls, a most surreal peace!

I know for sure my mom would love to come here on holiday, due in no small part to her love of Rosamunde Pilcher films – Robin Hood’s Bay would be a dream location for her, so who knows – maybe one day we can enjoy it together.

To visit this place, it is pretty important that you have a car or campervan, transport links are not so obvious as the village is small and transport not so great. On the day of our visit travelled by car, parking in the large car park at the top of the hill. Happily, parking is free in the winter months. Should you find yourself in Whitby or somewhere near Scarborough, then you can take the Arriva bus, X 93, which services some of the many small, picturesque villages along the coast, including this one. One of the things that surprised me most was that when we arrived on the beach you could see vast rock pools giving way to at least a couple of kilometres of golden beach. By the time we left, the tide had come in and the water reached the sea defences. What a wonderous thing. ♥

The cottages for rent here are many in number and the prices are very reasonable for a few people sharing the cost. Each one seemingly more beautiful than the other, I could have stayed all day, light permitting, just taking pictures of these gorgeous abodes. ♥

December 26^th, or Boxing Day as it is in the UK, meant that many of the local dive spots to eat were closed, but we were fortunate that that most important of English dishes, fish and chips, were available from a tiny local shop which was doing a roaring trade.

After sampling their wares, we could see why – simply delicious. We went for traditional fish and chips and a fish cake with chips (the latter being essentially a fish dumpling consisting of cod and potato, mashed together, then battered and deep fried). A bomb lust gorgeous! Despite the hearty carb overload, I still found room for a nice scoop of ice cream; hmmm, I think I’ll stay on a diet for the next two years!

You must be willing and able to walk because the streets, while all downhill at first, must surely come up again. Despite this, the beautiful scenery makes you want to keep exploring the little coves and tiny alleyways, despite how steep they may be.

A single recommendation regarding that beautiful beach is that there is little to no garbage here and everyone loves to recycle. The bins can be found around the country, it is not difficult to see them because everything is very well organized. For more information, look HERE
